Reflection Paper in E-Tech Subject
Technology is taking over our world. In the current time people can't imagine their life without technology. Surrounding us various technologies are helping people to live their life with more luxury. Technology is the present world. It affects people’s daily lives. Whether it inspires somebody to be the master at video games or makes somebody a computer hacker. It has changed the generation of teenagers/young adults rapidly. It has made the generation more greedy, ignorant, and lazy. By the help of our subject in Empowerment
Technology it widens my knowledge and perception in technologies today.
Empowerment Technology was such a hard and difficult subject for me. it is hard because some of our lessons in this subject is difficult ti understand and sometimes I can't relate it to my life. But there are times that I can fully understand what our teacher discussing. Just like in our prelim discussion, I learned a lot of lessons that i can used and apply in my life. One of this is the Information and Communication Technology or also known as ICT. By this, I can know that is deals with the use of different communication technology such as mobile phones, telephone, internet, etc that we are using today in our society. through this, it also helps me to locate, save, send and edit a particular information in a World Wide Web. What we had done in this subject is very helpful and useful.
Learning new knowledge in Empowerment Technology is very important. Why is it that these are important? First, it helps me especially other people to be wise and aware in using internet. Second, be responsible in posting some images or other confidential things that people can saw it. Lastly, it is useful in our daily lives. E-Tech is a very powerful tool that we can used in our life. But sometimes, I hate E-tech. It is because there are things that critically need to understand and I hate that thing. Sometimes, I don't have the interest in listening in our discussion because it is boring and there is no fun.
Experiences in E-Tech subject cannot be forgotten. One of this, is the poster making about internet threats. Even though I don't know how to draw but I tried my best to do the activity. That time it is very frustrating and annoying because I am not a creative and artistic person. Second, is the role play about safety tips in using internet. Acting in front of people is what I like. So when our teacher gave this activity I feel happy and confident. I gave my very best in the activity and I'm happy for that. Lastly, I creating a blog. I'm having a hard time when I do our performance task About Environment Conservation and Action and the Role of ICT in Recent History. It is because we only have a little period of time to do our tasks and we need to focus and think properly tobhabe something to say in our article. I cannot forget this because it is my first time to have a blogger and to share my work to other people.
My journey in E-Tech is like a roller coaster. Even though there are Many ups and downs but still I overcome the challenges and hardships in this subject. It brought me a lot of learning's and perceptions. All the things I learned is never be forgotten and will always remain in my mind and heart. And absolutely, this is the best and worst subject for me.

Save earth, Save life
source: goodwork.ca |
Conservation is a
state of harmony between
men and land.
-Aldo Leopold
In fact, we really need environment, everything surrounding us. We take everything from environment and we throw them away after taking all of their values. We exploit resources as much as possible. When we have new advantages from new inventions, we use them as the most powerful tools to abuse environment. Under the pressure of development, global environment has been destroying seriously .What we done now leads to the catastrophic problems which we have to cope by conserving and doing actions to protect our world.
Environmental conservation is an umbrella term that defines anything we do to protect our planet and conserve its natural resources so that every living thing can have an improved quality of life. Environmental conservation includes taking care of the air and the earth's atmosphere, animal and plant life, humans and cultural development, and the planet's water.
It shares a lot of interests with human rights, because keeping underprivileged populations healthy and thriving has a lot to do with preserving the earth. Conservation can be as little as planting a tree and maintaining it or as big as saving a species of whales. The main idea is that any progress is good progress, no matter the size.
ACTION TO OUR ENVIRONMENT
Conserving our environment is really important but in order to do this it needs an ACTION. An action that save our trees and animals. Not only the trees and animals but also the air we breath and the water we drink.
Before you can begin promoting environmental awareness in your own community you must first make sure that you have a thorough understanding of environmental issues. Here are some actions that you can apply in order to sustain environment:
- STOP SMOKING - If you don’t smoke, you lessen air pollution and improve your lung health.
- JOINING ANY ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATION -There are many environmental organizations working to protect the environment today, and you can do your part by joining forces with these organizations, or by contributing on an individual level.
- HELPING LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO PROTECT SOME OF THE LARGEST FORESTS IN THE WORLD -In addition to being a major contributor to climate change, deforestation is both a driver and a result of poverty in developing countries. It actively involve local communities in the preservation of their forests.
- SAVE ELECTRICITY AND WATER -It helps to cut your water usage by more than half. If you commit just a little extra effort each day you alone can make a difference. Using less energy has a few clear benefits. It allows people, governments and businesses to save money, and it lets power plants avoid costly upgrades.
- PLANT TREES AND SHRUBS - Planting trees and shrubs provides plenty of exercise -- digging and lifting will work muscles you didn't even know you had. As for benefiting the environment, trees and shrubs shelter wildlife and filter the air by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.
- HELPING UNIVERSITIES ACHIEVE SUSTAINABILITY -Engaging students and faculty, both in and outside of the classroom, on sustainability initiatives around campus in order to create a living learning environment.
- REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE - The three R's - reduce, reuse and recycle - all help to cut down on the amount of waste we throw away. They conserve natural resources, landfill space and energy.
- COMMITTING TO TAKE ACTION -We must committed to implement projects and build partnerships that develop the clean energy industry and support economic recovery by creating green jobs.

The media had come to its success not by accident; for Philippine media today is a product of context and history.
Information and Communication Technology(ICT) plays an important role in our world today. But does ICT really helpful to us in connecting to our historical event-EDSA PEOPLE POWER REVOLUTION? What is the important role of ICT in Edsa People Power Revolution?
Edsa People Power Revolution is so called bloodless revolution wherein all Filipinos was gathered in unity with courage and faith to prevail democracy in our country and it was the power of people who assembled in EDSA, ending the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos. It's been 35 years since the traumatic, chaotic and unforgettable EDSA People Power Revolution happened in Philippine during the term of President Ferdinand Marcos. The Philippine was praised worldwide in 1986. During that time, there are no media, journalists and broadcasters that can able to report against the administration of Ferdinand Marcos. Marcos prevent local media to carry news
The role of ICT in EDSA PEOPLE POWER REVOLUTION is through a Radio Veritas, a 24 hour AM radio station operated by Roman Catholic church.
source: veritas846.ph |
The Radio Veritas is the only station of radio that became the way to inform Filipinos by Cardinal Sin. After Cardinal Sin’s announcement in Radio Veritas thousands of people, responding to the Cardinal’s appeal, began gathering outside rebel camps, bringing supplies and food for the soldiers and that was the key of "blood revolution" against the dictator President Ferdinand Marcos reign. It was also the only way to carry news about the Senator's Aquino Assassination, provoke the two million supporter to come to his funeral. According to former President of the University of the Philippines Francisco Nemenzo, “Without Radio Veritas it would have been difficult, if not impossible, to mobilize millions of people in a matter of hours.”
Throughout recent history, the Philippines has been one of a new nations that demonstrates unity for a call to action or social change. These campaigns for social change would have not been successful if it were not for ICT.

ICTs are unlikely to change the main principles of politics. But, in particular in less established democracies, this is unlikely to be the last time that the stunning advances in ICTs play a crucial role in helping the people remove a bad leader. With the new Century over a year old, technology has now played critical yet very different roles in bringing two of the world’s leaders to power.
WHAT IS EDSA II?
The EDSA II (Edsa Dos) is a four-day political events that took place on January 17-20, 2001, which toppled the President of the Philippines Joseph Estrada and Gloria Macapagal catapulted Arroyo, who is Vice-President, as President of the country. According to supporters, the EDSA II was "popular", but referred to by critics as a conspiracy among the elite politicians and businessmen, higher position and the military's Jaime Cardinal Sin. It was fueled after 11 prosecutors of the President Joseph Estrada walked out of the impeachment trial. As a result, the crowd in EDSA grew over the course of a few days through text brigades.
People Power II was arguably the world’s first “E-revolution” - a change of government brought about by new forms of ICTs. “Texting” allowed information on former President Estrada’s corruption to be shared widely. It helped facilitate the protests at the EDSA shrine at a speed that was startling - it took only 88 hours after the collapse of impeachment to remove Estrada.
The use of mobile phones was why the mobilization (or perhaps “mobile-ization”) was so large and so rapid and thus so decisive. Estrada himself blamed his ouster on the “text messaging generation.” Mobile phone technology was not just critical in the days preceding People Power II, it had been important over a number of months. Texters started passing around messages using an exclamation mark as a symbol to call for an end to the Estrada government’s corruption, cronyism and incompetence.
The people of the Philipines will have shown one way and for that we should thank the “Text Brigade”.

MILLION PEOPLE MARCH

“By marching on the streets, we could leave a legacy for our students and our own children that they will grow up in a country free of corruption and thievery and would make them proud as Filipino people,” - Chairman, Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC)
Before knowing what are the roles of ICT in Million People March, let us first know what happened in MILLION PEOPLE MARCH.
Million People March was the first of series of protests in the Philippines calling for the total abolition of the Pork Barrel fund triggered by public anger over the Priority Development Assistance Fund scam. There was hundreds of thousands of Filipinos gathered in Luneta Park, Manila on August 26, 2013 as well as other cities nationwide and overseas. The organizers and promoters of the Million People March used Facebook and Change.org as their, mediums.
Peachy Rallonza-Bretaña, a long-time advertising executive reposted it as a call to action with a date and a place to it- Luneta, August 26. As one of the coordinators, Ms. Rallonza-Bretaña said that "there is no main group leading the protest and described it as “snowballing at great speed”. On the eve of the protests, there are 18,000 people from different groups that join in Luneta Park asked to dress in white but people were encouraged to go in colours they wanted to. It is because they wanted to reflect the protest's inclusive, non-partisan and decentralised.

It is already 21st century when the Million People March happened and because of modern technologies that time there were lot of Filipinos expressed there anger through creating blogs, pages, advertisements and even memes to show that they agree to the idea of stopping the Pork Barrel Fund. Example of this is a Facebook event that created by Arnold Pedrigal and Bernardo Bernardo entitled “MILLION PEOPLE MARCH TO LUNETA AUGUST 26: SA ARAW NG MGA BAYANI, PROTESTA NG MGA BAYANI!!!".
Screen grab from the Facebook event page |
Another is a group of people called hacktivist or the PrivateX repaired at least 30 government websites early on August 26,2013, hours before the main protests. These includes the websites of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Embassy in Rome.
Through this millennial tool, Filipinos can showed their love for their country and for the people who works hard for their living. They can express their feelings to the government and show how valuable our money is. As the time goes by and as the world will change ICT will always be a part of our great history because no matter what happened and the situation is, Filipinos will always fight for what is right and will do everything for the country.
YOLANDA PEOPLE FINDER
THE ROLE OF ICT

YOLANDA PEOPLE FINDER
Typhoon Yolanda was one of the most intense tropical cyclones on record, which devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, on November 8, 2013. It is the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record, killing at least 6,300 people in that country alone. It is also the strongest storm recorded at landfall. In January 2014, bodies were still being found.
It’s been four years and half after that tragic day on November 8, 2013 – but to this day, no one can say for certain how many people perished in the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda. Estimates on the number of casualties are as high as 7,000 with some 1,800 missing or presumed dead – which is not too far from the projection made by police chief superintendent Elmer Soria who was eventually sacked as Eastern Visayas regional head for saying the number of fatalities could reach 10,000.

The role of ICT in Yolanda People Finder is through the use of google. Wherein the google has launched a Person Finder that allows individuals to post messages and search for the status of family and friends affected by the disaster. If you're worried about someone, click on the button that says "I'm looking for someone" and type in their name. If you have information about someone in the area, or want to let others know you are safe, click on the button "I have information about someone" and enter name and details.
